Medical Screening Camps are a vital part of the healthcare focus of Baer Christian Hospital. Camps are opportunities for people to have specific health issues addressed such as breast cancer, diabetes, dental care, eye disease, general nutrition issues, infant and children’s inoculations, women’s health needs. Eventually camps for HIV/AIDS screening, greatly needed in India, will also be provided. Some of these camps are conducted on the grounds of Baer Christian Hospital, or at the clinic, while others are conducted by mobile units that can travel to remote locations. Since the reopening of the clinic in 2006, thousands of adults and children have been screened and their health needs addressed through these Medical Camps. Special funds are needed to hire the professionals and to pay for the mobile screening units, and the vehicles necessary to carry out a successful camp. Many times volunteer professionals donate their time and talents to this effort. Still, medicines, therapies, and follow up care have to be provided. The Chirala Medical and Educational Trust is helping fund these camps, send teams of doctors and assistants, and support the necessary follow up care.
